In brief

  • The sites set no cookies of their own and ask for no account or login.
  • They carry no advertising, and we send no marketing email.
  • If you write to us, through a form or by email, we use what you send only to answer you. We do not sell it.
  • We keep requests for 24 months after the last exchange, and longer only where the law requires.
  • A request sent through www.chipchain.com is handled by companies in the United States and in China. A request sent through www.chipchain.net is handled by Tencent services.
  • You may ask to see, correct or delete your information by writing to privacy@chipchain.com.

This summary does not replace the sections below.

Who we are

These sites are run by Chipchain, a company registered in Shenzhen.

Chipchain decides why and how the personal information in this notice is handled. Where those laws apply, it is the personal information handler under China's Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) and the controller under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In this notice, “we” and “us” mean Chipchain.

Address: Room 3003B, Tower A, Galaxy WORLD, No. 1 Yabao Road, Bantian, Longgang, Shenzhen 518129, China. Email: privacy@chipchain.com.

What this notice covers

This notice covers www.chipchain.com and www.chipchain.net (the “sites”), in every language, and email you exchange with us at an address published on the sites.

It does not cover other companies' websites that the sites link to. If you sign an agreement with us, that agreement may contain its own terms on personal information.

What we collect, and from where

The request form

When you send the request form, we receive what you enter: what you need, the project details you give (such as engagement model, volume and schedule), your name, work email, company or organisation, country or region and, if you give them, your job title and phone number.

With it we receive a reference number, the page and language you sent it from, the time, and a record of the notice you accepted by sending it. If a separate consent applies, the record shows that you ticked the box, and when.

Fields marked Required are needed to answer you; without them we cannot reply. The rest are optional.

Please do not enter sensitive personal information, such as identity numbers, health details or bank account details, or other people's personal information beyond what the request needs.

Email

When you email us, we receive your address, your message, anything attached and the technical details in the message's headers.

Technical information

Each time a browser asks for a page, our hosting providers receive technical details of the request, such as the IP address, the browser and device type, the page asked for, the referring page, and the date and time. They use them to deliver the page and to protect the sites from abuse.

When you send the form, the email we receive also records the technical details of that request: the IP address, the location and network our provider derives from it, and what your browser reports, such as the browser, operating system, device model, screen, language, time zone and the page you came from. We use them to assess the request and to protect against abuse, and we keep them with the request.

To limit repeated sending, the form also counts requests per connection, using an irreversible, scrambled form of the IP address that is held in memory for a short time.

Visit counts

www.chipchain.com counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not track visitors across sites. We see totals, such as page views, referring sites, countries, browser types and page-load times, and not individual visitors.

www.chipchain.net loads nothing from third parties and runs no analytics.

All of this comes from you or from your browser.

Why we use it, and on what legal basis

We use personal information for the purposes in this table. The legal basis depends on the law that applies to you.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object, as the section on your rights explains.

In other places we rely on your consent, or on the nearest equivalent basis in the local law.

If we want to use personal information for a new purpose, we will tell you and, where the law requires, ask for your consent first.

Who receives it

A request sent through www.chipchain.com reaches two mailboxes, sales@chipchain.com and a mailbox hosted by Google LLC. A request sent through www.chipchain.net reaches sales@chipchain.com and a mailbox hosted by Tencent.

These companies provide the services behind the sites and our email. Each handles information under its own terms and privacy notice.

We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it, or where a court or authority with the power to do so asks for it.

If our company merges, divides or is transferred, personal information may pass to its successor. Where the law requires, we will tell you the successor's name and contact details.

International transfers

We are established in mainland China. What you send us reaches us there, wherever you are, because you are sending it to us directly.

www.chipchain.com

www.chipchain.com is hosted outside mainland China, and its form relays requests through Cloudflare, Inc. in the United States. One copy is held in a mailbox hosted by Google LLC in the United States, and another in sales@chipchain.com, hosted by Tencent in China.

If you are in mainland China, this means your personal information is provided outside China. When you choose China as your country or region, the form asks for your separate consent before it sends your request. If you prefer not to give it, use the form on www.chipchain.net or write to sales@chipchain.com.

For that provision outside China, the law requires you to be told:

  • Overseas recipients: Cloudflare, Inc. and Google LLC, with the contact details in the table above.
  • Purpose: to relay your request and hold it so that we can answer it.
  • Method: transmission and storage in those companies' hosting and email systems.
  • Categories: the form entries and accompanying details listed under “What we collect, and from where”.
  • Retention: the period under “How long we keep it”.
  • How to exercise your rights: write to privacy@chipchain.com, and we will deal with the information in the mailboxes and accounts we control, or contact the recipient directly with the details in the table above.

For visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom: when this notice was last updated, the official Data Privacy Framework List showed Cloudflare, Inc. and Google LLC as active participants in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension. The European Commission's adequacy decision and the corresponding UK regulations cover transfers to organisations on that list.

www.chipchain.net

www.chipchain.net is hosted by Tencent Cloud EdgeOne, which serves it from nodes in and outside mainland China. Its form relays requests through Tencent Cloud's email service to mailboxes hosted by Tencent. They are not sent to Cloudflare or Google.

How long we keep it

We keep requests and the email exchanges that follow for 24 months after the last exchange, and longer only where the law requires. When that period ends, we delete them.

If a request leads to a signed agreement, the records of that agreement are kept as it and the law provide.

Our hosting providers keep technical information for the periods they set, within the law. We keep no other copy of it, apart from what the form's email records, which we keep with your request. Cloudflare keeps analytics data for the period it sets; we see only totals.

How we protect it

The sites are served over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The form passes requests on by email, and the sites keep no database of them. The mailboxes that receive them are held by the providers named above and are reached through their account logins.

No website or email system is completely secure, and email is not always encrypted on its way. We cannot guarantee the security of information sent over the internet.

If a personal information incident occurs, we will take the steps the law requires, including any notice it requires to the authorities and to you.

Your rights

Your rights depend on where you are and on the law that applies to you, and each has conditions and exceptions set by that law. In general, you may:

  • know how your personal information is handled, and ask us to explain this notice;
  • see your personal information and receive a copy;
  • ask us to correct or complete it;
  • ask us to delete it; we will, unless the law requires or allows us to keep it;
  • restrict or object to our handling of it, including handling based on legitimate interests;
  • withdraw a consent you have given;
  • ask for it to be transferred to another handler or controller, where the law provides for this.

Where the law provides, the close relatives of a person who has died may exercise some of these rights.

How to make a request

Write to the privacy contact at privacy@chipchain.com, or at the address under “Who we are”. Say what you are asking for and which email address or request it concerns.

Before we act, we may ask you to confirm that the information is yours, for example by replying from the address you used. We ask only for what we need for that.

We answer within the time the law allows; in the EU and UK that is one month, which the GDPR allows us to extend by up to two further months for complex or numerous requests.

We do not charge for a request unless the law allows a fee. If we cannot do what you ask, we will tell you why, as far as the law allows.

Complaints

You may raise a concern with us at privacy@chipchain.com. You also have the right to complain to an authority:

  • Mainland China: the departments responsible for personal information protection, including the Cyberspace Administration of China. If we refuse a request, you may also bring a case in a people's court.
  • European Economic Area: the data protection supervisory authority where you live or work, or where you believe the law was broken.
  • United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner's Office.
  • Hong Kong SAR: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.
  • Elsewhere: the data protection authority where you are, if there is one.

Children

The sites are for businesses and professionals and are not directed at children under fourteen. We do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under fourteen has sent us personal information, write to privacy@chipchain.com so that we can deal with it as the law requires.

Automated decisions

We do not use personal information to make decisions about you by automated means, and we do not profile you.

Two automatic checks exist, and neither decides anything about you as a person. The form refuses malformed submissions, quietly drops those no person could have sent, and marks others that look automated for a person to read. Our hosting providers' security systems may block or challenge traffic that looks automated.

Cookies

The sites set no cookies of their own. Our hosting providers may set strictly necessary security cookies. The cookie notice gives the details.

Changes to this notice

We may change this notice. Any change is posted on this page with a new date. Where the law requires more, such as telling you directly or asking for your consent again, we will do that.
